2013: Our Year in Highlights!

Before we get too far into the New Year, we wanted to take a moment to point out a few great moments from our 2013 wedding season! Because we have the privilege of working with the best clients in the world, we couldn’t possibly cover EVERYTHING, but here are a few things that made us smile this year!

Best Mix-and-Match Bridesmaid Attire

Mixing up your bridesmaids’ attire is super trendy at the moment and this bride knew just the right combination to achieve the fun and fresh vibe she was going for. We love that the dresses are suited to each girl individually but that they also came together just perfectly!

Craziest Groomsmen Attire

We thought we had seen it all until this groom and his groomsmen pulled out horse heads during their photo session! Apparently part of an inside joke, these guys had fun taking pictures and then tucked away the props until later that night when they surprised all the guests on the dance floor!

Most Perfectly Coordinated Custom Paper Products

This couple had Southern Fried Paper create the most gorgeous paper products: from their Dallas skyline Save-the-Dates, to their invitation suite, to the adorable table numbers with custom pictures from their travels, each piece was absolute perfection! The Double Happiness symbol that they used is a typical Chinese wedding symbol–keep an eye out for a Real Wedding post about this couple coming soon that explains the sentiment behind it!

Most Stunning Chuppah

Chuppah’s come in all different sizes and styles and add an extra element of beauty and elegance to the ceremony decor. This Winter Wonderland wedding required something extra special and so the team at Fauxcades custom created the LARGEST chuppah we have ever seen–and Garden Gate added all of that incredible floral detail!

Most Unique Wedding Cake

We’ve seen plenty of amazing wedding cakes, but this one definitely “takes the cake” as the most interesting! This bride was inspired by a stunning architectural piece on the corner of a building and Fancy Cakes by Lauren was able to recreate it on this cake in the wedding’s black and gold art deco color scheme!

And speaking of cakes…

Most Adorable Cake Cutting Pictures

A beautiful home wedding, a couple madly in love, a gorgeous backdrop… How can you not melt when checking out this photo series?!

Most Picture-Perfect Sweetheart Table

Branching Out did an amazing job with all of the decor for this spring wedding, but we can’t help but swoon every time we see this simple and sweet little table set-up that they put together!

Most Awe-Inspiring Head Table

Head tables are meant to steal the show and this one was no exception! Check out how Bella Flora made this table the most eye-catching centerpiece of the entire reception!

Place Setting Most Likely to Make You Smile

The combination of pink, orange, blue and white was perfection at this wedding and we just can’t help but grin when taking in the bright and fresh place settings that mixed together the color palette just right!

Best Use of Event Space

When your guest count starts adding up, you have to consider the best way to fit all those people in comfortably and this couple did just that! The Frontiers of Flight Museum was the perfect place to host their large guest count and we worked hard to come up with a floor plan that made everyone feel at home–all 900 of them!

We are so thankful for such an incredible year and are looking forward to 2014 and all the exciting events to come!

Real Wedding: Piper – Saylor Wedding

Katie and Adam were looking for the perfect “burlap and blue” design to complement their outdoor wedding at the Dallas Arboretum and our team was able to pull together this fabulous inspiration page that the couple was so excited about!

… however, when Katie’s bridesmaids came across a fun coral-colored bridesmaid dress that they knew they had to have, she came back to us and asked if there was any way we could incorporate the new color into the design she already loved. Part of being a wedding planner is the ability to adjust and make changes as needed and so we were ready and willing to accommodate our sweet bride with a design we all fell in love with just a little bit more!

Here are the pictures that Kristal with Creative Shotz captured from their day so you can see how it all came together!

Adam and his friends had a little inside joke involving these crazy horse heads and lots of laughs… Keep an eye out in the reception pictures for their second surprising appearance!

This stunning garden path was the perfect location for Katie and Adam’s romantic “First Look!”

And on to the ceremony…

We LOVE a unique guest book idea and these thumbprint balloons on a customized print were so fun!

The team at Branching Out not only provided all of the fabulous floral for the day, but they also created this incredible one-of-a-kind altar piece with woven branches and floral for the ceremony!

And now for some fun reception details…

… like this adorable chalkboard seating chart…

… the mix of beautiful centerpieces…

… and a stunning, 5-tier cake from Dallas Affaires Cake Co.!

Brian with Simply Music provided the awesome music and lighting for the evening and this group definitely brought the party!

Those hilarious horse heads even made an appearance out on the dance floor!

Even more pictures from Katie and Adam’s big day will be up on our Facebook page soon so be sure to check it out!

A Spa Day for Everyone

You might be surprised to hear how one of my latest grooms spent the afternoon before his big event. He didn’t play a game of golf, though that might have been fun. He didn’t have a round of beers at the local sports bar with his Best Man, either. Instead, I arranged for an outing that would leave him relaxed and looking his best when it came time to say his “I do”‘s.

For this, he headed to a spa. To be specific, I’d booked him an appointment for a full-on, luxury barber’s shave, including a warm towel wrap and probably a little witty conversation. I loved the idea – and so did he!

In fact, expanding this concept into an event is an absolutely original way to get together with your wedding party. You know me – I’m all about originality and creativity! So, how about gathering both sides of the aisle – bridesmaids and groomsmen – for a late morning brunch, followed by a relaxing trip to the spa? For starters, everyone enjoys Eggs Benedict or Belgian waffles (and maybe a Bloody Mary or two), then the girls head off for an afternoon of pampering and the guys make their way to a spa just their style.

FACE Salon Spa Retreat for Men, for instance, is just such a spot. Located in the West Village in Uptown Dallas, FACE offers facials, hair services, and hand & foot “details”, as well as a Signature Shave featuring Billy Jealousy products. There are even flat screen TV’s and draft beer in the waiting room. Nice! Or, try Uptown’s The Boardroom Salon for spa treatments in a masculine environment that includes leather chairs and a pool table! Another option is Massage Envy, right around the corner, and I can personally recommend it for a relaxing massage.

Staying in the neighborhood, the West Village is also home to a couple of options for the ladies in the group. Spa*Habitat is natural and organic all the way, and has been touted in Lucky, Allure and Modern Luxury Magazines. Their Summer Citrus Massage sounds like heaven and is perfect for this season! The Avalon Salon & Spa also offers a full menu of services and treatments. Bread Winners Cafe & Bakery, just a short walk or ride away, is a great place to start the day with a delicious meal.

Whether you choose to explore these spas, or others in your area, a day like this is a wonderful way to show your appreciation to the members of your wedding party. Everyone loves great food and a little relaxation – both the girls and the guys, too!

Mix and Match

Matching dresses are a thing of the past so let your friends mix it up! However, mixing it up a little should not stress you out. Here are a few ways to make sure your bridesmaids can be unique but still look fabulous standing side by side.1. Choose a color palette with swatches of fabric from a fabric store. These colors should all complement one another as well as your wedding theme. Then, let the girls decide what colors are the most flattering for their body type as well as skin and hair color. They can take the swatches with them and find dresses that show off their own personality.

Tip: Give the girls a few guidelines such as dress length, formality level, or a general silhouette, but let them do the rest.

2. For a bride who is a little more conservative, change the neckline and silhouette of the dresses while keeping the same color and texture. Also, use different jewelry in the same colors for each bridesmaid and let them pick their own shoes.

3. For bold brides, choose a color palette and let the girls pick their own prints. This goes really well with a wedding that has a vintage or whimsical theme.
